Jessie’s Fresh Start

When Jessie first came to Nomad, she was timid and hesitant to open up about her past trauma. Her experiences had left her feeling vulnerable, and she was understandably guarded.

We provided Jessie with a safe place to begin her journey, as he moved into one of our Training Flats (Supported Exempt Accommodation), where she could feel secure and supported. Jessie was eager to find work and regain her independence, so she partnered with Mary, our Housing and Progression Officer, to explore her career options. With a passion for becoming a nail technician, Jessie set her sights on a new path, and we were able to fund a specialised training course to help her move toward her goal of employment.

Alongside career support, we also arranged for Jessie to receive essential mental health care. We funded counselling sessions through BetterHelp, which gave her the tools to work through her trauma and manage her anxiety. With Mary’s assistance, Jessie also found the right medication to further support her well-being, which brought about a noticeable improvement in her outlook and daily life.

Now, after 18 months of support from Nomad, Jessie is preparing to take the next big step in her life: moving to Scotland for a fresh start. Her independence and confidence have grown remarkably during her time with us. It’s amazing to see her transformation—from a shy young woman facing uncertainty, to a confident, independent individual ready to embrace a new job and a new environment.
