Nigel’s Triumph

Nigel came to Nomad after experiencing a traumatic period of homelessness. After being kicked out of his house by his wife, he sought refuge in temporary accommodation but left due to being bullied. This led to him living in a tent, where he suffered from severe loneliness and developed significant back problems due to the uncomfortable living conditions.

When Nigel arrived at Nomad, we were able to provide him with safe, warm, and secure accommodation, complete with fresh new bedding at the start of his tenancy. Beyond offering him a home, we supported Nigel in finding new employment and helped him discover a new hobby: gardening.

Unfortunately, Nigel’s back problems were exacerbated by the cold, damp conditions of his previous living situation. With consistent heating and hot water, he can now maintain a comfortable and healthy living environment, which has greatly contributed to his overall well-being.

Nigel has shown noticeable improvements since joining Nomad. He expresses feeling “really settled” and “safe.” One of his favourite aspects of living in our shared accommodation is the sense of community he has found. Nigel has made new friends among the other residents, and they often gather in the warm common room to listen to the radio or watch together.

This supportive environment, bolstered by the assurance of a warm home, has significantly improved Nigel’s outlook on life. Having a safe, heated place to live, along with a newfound community, has helped him regain his confidence and sense of self-worth. The impact of consistent access to heating, hot water and electricity cannot be overstated, as it has provided Nigel with the stability he needs to rebuild his life.
