When Marvin* first arrived, he was facing some tough challenges – nowhere to live, out of work, and battling depression. We offered him a place to stay in our training flats, giving him a fresh start and the support he needed to begin rebuilding.
Teaming up with a housing and progression officer, Marvin put together a personalised action plan to focus on his wellbeing and map out a route back into work.
Since then, he’s been making brilliant progress. He’s signed up with a new doctor, joined a gym, and now regularly attends a weekly Talk Club – something he says has made a real difference to his mental health.
What’s next? Marvin’s keen to start volunteering and, with his experience as a chef, he’s beginning to explore ways to return to the kitchen at his own pace. We look forward to supporting Marvin as he takes the next steps toward employment and getting back into a healthy, fulfilling routine.
One of the things Marvin shared with us recently was:
“I really appreciate you taking your time with me and thanks for listening because I feel like I’ve got less weight on my shoulders, and I’m hopeful now.”
