Reconnecting Lives

In 2019, Hassan and Jamal* moved into one of our training flats, each coming from very different backgrounds.

Jamal had been working as a chef, but a sudden breakup led to him losing his job, turning his life upside down in an instant.

Hassan had been struggling with his mental health and battling drug-related issues. After getting caught up in some trouble, he was forced to leave his family behind.

Despite their differences, they formed a strong friendship. Jamal taught Hassan how to cook, and they planned meals together, sharing dinner most nights.

After six months, their paths separated – Jamal secured a new job and moved into private rented accommodation. Though life took them in different directions, they stayed in touch, valuing the bond they had built.

Six months ago, their sons, unaware of their fathers’ past connection, began playing online video games together. When they realised the link, it sparked renewed conversation between Hassan and Jamal. Since then, they have stayed in regular contact and have even planned to meet up this summer.

Building relationships is key to our wellbeing, and this story is a testament to that. Through safe, stable accommodation and ongoing support, both Hassan and Jamal have turned their lives around. We are delighted to see not only their friendship endure but also a new one blossom between their sons.
