Tyler’s Path to Progress

When Tyler* first came to Nomad, life felt uncertain. He had recently gained his refugee status but was left without a home, a job, or even a way to get around. Having been evicted from Home Office accommodation, he found himself sofa surfing and struggling to move forward.

That all changed in December, when Tyler moved into one of Nomad’s training flats. With a safe place to live, he finally had the stability he needed to focus on his future.

Our Housing Officers worked closely with Tyler, helping him apply for courses, improve his English, and gain confidence in navigating life in Sheffield. He completed an ESOL course to strengthen his language skills, and soon after took on training to become a qualified security guard.

Tyler didn’t stop there. With encouragement and support, he also passed his driving test – opening up new opportunities for work and independence. Today, Tyler is employed as a delivery driver, with the freedom and security that once felt out of reach.

Tyler’s journey shows how having a safe home and the right support can unlock potential and create lasting change.
